A community built on purpose
Not a group chat that grew by accident. Before we opened the doors we agreed what this is, who it is for, how it is run and who is responsible for what.
How it started
A small group of students at Kyungdong University kept running into the same problem: plenty of people around them were learning to build things, and no good way for any of them to find each other. So they started this.
The obvious version of that idea would have stopped at the campus gates. It did not, because the problem does not. Someone teaching themselves to code alone has the same problem whether they are in Goseong or anywhere else, and a community small enough to be useful is not made smaller by letting them in.
What came out of those first few weeks was a plan rather than a slogan: which activities to run, how the community would be managed, who is responsible for what, and what had to exist before opening the doors. It is still changing as the community grows, which is the point.
What we are for
Different levels of experience, different interests, and not all of them from the same campus.
We want to be genuinely open and genuinely organised at the same time. Those two things pull against each other, and most student groups quietly give up on one of them. Our answer is a light joining process and a clear structure.
Before anyone joins, they should be able to find out:
- What the community actually is
- What they can expect from it
- What is expected from them
- What behaviour is acceptable
- How activities are organised
- How they can contribute
- Who to contact when they need help
That is what this website is for. If something on it is unclear, that is a fault worth telling us about.
What we hold each other to
How the work is divided
Four areas of responsibility. They describe the work rather than the people doing it: members move between them, and an area can be held by one person or shared by several. Everyone is expected to contribute where they can, because the community should not depend entirely on any one person.
Who can join, and how
Students at Kyungdong University, and any other developer who wants to learn or build something with other people. Any level of experience, technical or not.
There is a short joining process. It exists so the community stays a place where people know what is happening — not to keep anyone out.
